Moodle 3.1 viene cargado con características solicitadas-por-los-usuarios, como por ejemplo el soporte completo para Educación Basada en Competencias, calificación de tareas más suave, fácil recuperación de archivos eliminados (gracias a la Moodle Users Association), mejoras en el uso de marcas (tags) y edición de cursos, mayor Usabilidad para estudiantes y mejorías a varias actividades, tales como foros, taller y lección.
