Talk:Wiki module

From MoodleDocs

==I see that Moodle uses an older wiki. What are the plans for this compoenent? does it need help being migrated to mediawiki?! --Peder Halseide 17:50, 2 July 2008 (CDT)

MoodleDoc Wiki page naming

I need to share an outline, everytime I look at these pages the names do not follow function or how other modules page naming convention.

  • Wiki module
    • This is easy, Gives over view
  • Adding/Editing a wiki
    • This phrase in other modules refers to setup and editing the activity settings
    • Perhaps the Administration dropdown menu should also go here.
  • Viewing a wiki
    • I think this should be about Viewing and editing wiki pages, the 4 tabs.
    • Perhaps the Choose wiki links dropdown menu should go here
    • Search wiki
    • Overview of the components of a wiki page
    • Printing a wiki page
  • Exporting a wiki
    • What are the various ways.
    • HTML web pages

I feel much more organized now, although the page name is not really following the functions :) --Chris collman 14:10, 14 February 2007 (CST)

Hi Chris, have you tried following the links to the documentation from within Moodle? The page names in the documentation should be (almost) the same as the page names in Moodle.
Thanks for your contributions to the documentation :-) --Helen Foster 14:57, 14 February 2007 (CST)

Different versions settings

In Moodle 1.7 demo.moodle, I don't see how to create the matrix (see below). I noticed the help screen shows the matrix but there is no Group Type setting in 1.7. Is this my ignorance of a Moodle wiki and/or my normal thick headed perspective? Help!

Humor Alert. Sometimes I get my knuckles wacked with a wet Moodle when I write instructions for a version that has not been released :) I had to put in the 1.8 qualifier until somebody writes how to get the 9 types in 1.7 in newbie language for me. Sigh

I am going to take a guess that the Course setting called Group Type in 1.7 was added to every activity in 1.8 . I will edit the article accordingly.--Chris collman 13:21, 29 December 2006 (CST)

Exploring the 9 Types of Wiki

There are 9 Types of Wiki in Moodle depending on what settings you select during its creation. Here is a link to a Course (http://www.moodle.vitta.org.au/) {this link seems dead?? 404 error Robin Greaves 13:51, 12 October 2007 (CDT)} set up to facilitate exploring each of these. Created by Keith Richardson

Thanks Keith. I liked the resource in the link. I guess if the matrix is part of the help screen in Moodle & I don't need permission. :) --Chris collman 11:29, 29 December 2006 (CST)
Hi Robin, page comments are generally not deleted or edited on the basis of their age, thus many links in them might be dead. On the other hand, the article page should not have broken links. Thanks for your additions and edits.--Chris collman 05:07, 19 October 2007 (CDT)

"Unless the group mode has been forced by the course settings, it can be set with the groups icons on the course home page after the wiki has been created."

I am interested in learning if anyone has used Wikis in a enterprise setting vs the classroom. I am thinking of using a wiki as a central spot for a client's sales force to post competitive information. KTA, March 27, 2008 Moodlerooms Assignment
