Anatomy of Site Admin Block

Moved to User:Frank Ralf/Moodle HTML where it should have been in the first place ;-)

Frank [corrected ;-)], it's great that you are thinking about this. A couple of extra things to think about:

  1. in Moodle 2.0 there will probably more blocks with collapsible trees in them (for example site/course navigation), so don't just think about HTML for the admin tree, think about HTML + JavaScript that will work for any tree.
  2. Allow space for a custom icon next to each item.
  3. Should we change the fact that the 'folder' links only ever expand or collapse their section, and never point to useful content. What I mean is, at the moment, you have to go all the way into Plugins -> Blocks -> Manage blocks. Would it be better if instead we removed the separate 'Manage blocks' entry, and instead you got to that page by clicking on the 'Blocks' link? (I am really not sure about this, but it might be worth considering.)

Hi, Tim. Thanks for the feedback and the hints to other points to consider. Will have a look. I think after all those heated theoretical debates in the different forums it't time to get one's hands dirty ;-) --Frank Ralf 06:37, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
Doh! I can't believe I got your name wrong. Actually, I can. I met my parents at the airport at 1:00am last night (this morning) and am functioning on not enough sleep. Please accept my apologies.--Tim Hunt 08:47, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
