Assignment overrides

From MoodleDocs

User and group overrides allow teachers to adjust assignment availability dates for specific students or groups — for example, granting an extension to a student with medical circumstances without changing the deadline for the whole class.

Accessing overrides

From the assignment page, go to More > Overrides.

From here you can add and manage user overrides and group overrides separately.

Adding an override

  1. Click Add user override or Add group override.
  2. Select the user or group.
  3. Enable and set only the fields you wish to override — leave others blank to keep the assignment defaults.
  4. Click Save.

Fields

Allow submissions from
The date before which the student cannot submit.
Due date

in Moodle 5.2!
An optional note explaining why this override was granted (e.g. disability accommodation, medical extension). Visible to teachers in the override list.

Precedence

If a student belongs to more than one group that has an override, the most lenient date applies: the earliest open date and the latest due and cut-off dates.

A user override always takes precedence over any group overrides.
