Log in to the Moodle

  • UTU account
  • Haka-login (with other higher education institute's account)
  • External or Norssi account

Login with External or Norssi account

ome Moodle users who do not have any university IDs log in to Moodle using Login with Special ID, ie on the right side of the Moodle home page, select Login with External or Norssi account. The Norssi account means the account of the Turku or Rauma Teacher Training School that can be logged in to Moodle (https://moodle.utu.fi) by selecting Login with the External or Norssi Account on the right side of the Moodle front page. Please remember to log in at least once a year for as long as you want your information to remain in Moodle. We will automatically delete any IDs that are no longer in use. If you're having trouble signing in, try signing in again and make sure you typed the characters correctly (case sneisive). You can try copying your username and password from your email / password vault into your Moodle login fields to avoid typos. If you have lost or forgotten your password (or username), see the page "How to change / reset password for external account" (if login doesn't work) for instructions. If this doesn't help either, please contact Moodle Support at helpdesk@utu.fi.

Changing the password

UTU Account

Changing the password for the University of Turku account or renewing a forgotten password does NOT take place in Moodle, but is done in the University of Turku user ID management service at idm.utu.fi. Please note that the UTU Account's password will expire 190 days after the last change.

You cannot log into Moodle with an expired password. There is a 2-5 minute delay in changing the password, after which login is usually successful.

Haka Login

Find or ask your own higher education institute's IT instructions or IT support for help to change your password or contact helpdesk@utu.fi if you receive an error message that your organization's IT support does not recognize or where they cannot help.

How to change External account password

If you have an external account (this is not UTU account for students and staff of University of Turku), then keep reading. Normally the external account is named like "local_", followed by three letters of your first name and three letters from your last name.

Normal password change:

  • To change your password, you need to be logged into Moodle.
  • Open upper right corner your picture / person icon
  • Select "Preferences"
  • Click "Change password"
  • Type current password first and new password 2 times, then save changes

If you are not able to log in, follow the instructions below:

  • Go to Forgotten password form
  • Type EITHER your username OR email address, do not type both. Leave another field empty.
  • You will be able to reset your password by following the instructions sent to your email. To make sure the changing the password will work, do it as soon as you receive the change link to your email
  • If you don't get the e-mail from Moodle, please contact helpdesk@utu.fi
  • Never tell anyone your password (even helpdesk).
