What is Moodle?

Moodle is a Learning Management System (LMS) designed to provide educators, administrators and learners with a single robust, secure and integrated system to create personalised learning environments. It has WCAG 2.1 Level AA accreditation. You can obtain Moodle officially in three ways:

  1. Download the free open-source software onto your own web server if you are technically minded;
  2. Purchase a low-cost MoodleCloud site, installed and managed directly by the people who make Moodle and particularly tailored to individuals or small to medium organisations;
  3. Connect with one of our Moodle Certified Partners and Service Providers who will advise you and configure Moodle to your exact specifications. They can also provide Moodle Workplace, an enterprise LMS combining the best of Moodle LMS with more advanced tools for workplace learning.

A free Moodle app is available for Android and iOS, with the possibility of purchasing your own branded Moodle app.

Moodle is developed and maintained by Moodle Pty Ltd, familiarly known as Moodle HQ. The open-source software, originally created over 20 years ago by Founder Martin Dougiamas is supported financially by a network of over 104 Moodle Partnerships worldwide and an increasing number of valued Certified Integrations. Clients purchasing a MoodleCloud site, along with voluntary donations, also help maintain Moodle's commitment to open-source learning and further advance the mission to Empower educators to improve our world.
