MoodleNet is an open, social, media platform for educators, initially focused on sharing and curating collections of open content. It is a central place from where educators can easily detect quality content to meet the needs of their learners and courses.


Moodle’s vision is to “Empower educators” and MoodleNet is the content solution for educators all over the world.

MoodleNet is federated and uses flexible Open Education Technology that is not controlled by a single entity, or subject to a single point of failure. This means that despite the MoodleNet site that Moodle will maintain, organisations and individuals will be able to create their own MoodleNet instances. These MoodleNet instances may be connected to the Moodle's MoodleNet site or other MoodleNet sites allowing users to search at once and access resources from different instances.

To ensure quick and easy resource retrieval, MoodleNet is going to use a number of metadata to accurately describe each resource, following international standards. Resources will be described among others, by: education level, subject, license, educational type, technical format, and language.

To share parts of a course:

  1. Enable edit mode;
  2. Click Bulk actions;
  3. Select the items to be shared;
  4. Click Share to MoodleNet from the sticky footer at the bottom of the screen.

MoodleNet Share progress

From Course navigation > More > MoodleNet Share progress, teachers and others with appropriate capabilities can see the send progress of courses and items they have uploaded to MoodleNet in any course.

Site administration settings

As an administrator you can connect to an instance of MoodleNet so that course teachers or others with the capability moodlenet:shareactivity and/or moodlenet:sharecourse can send course content to the selected MoodleNet site.

  1. From Site administration > Development > Experimental settings, check the box Enable sharing to MoodleNet (outbound)
  2. You will then have an extra setting (Enable sharing to MoodleNet (outbound)) from Site administration > General > MoodleNet settings, prompting you to set up a MoodleNet OAuth 2 service.
  3. From Site administration > Server > OAuth2 services, click the MoodleNet button and set up your service. See OAuth 2 MoodleNet service.
  4. Once the service is created, go to Site administration > General > MoodleNet outbound settings and set the OAuth 2 service to the service you just created.
  5. When everything is configured correctly, users with the Capabilities/moodle/moodlenet:shareactivity and Capabilities/moodle/moodlenet:sharecourse will be able to share to MoodleNet.
