New features
Moodle 2.9 brings together features and enhancements developed by our core team and community contributors. These include: streamlined navigation, useful improvements to activities such as Lesson and Quiz, along with new admin settings which refine the course management process.

For all users

My home is now Dashboard
My home has been renamed to Dashboard, while retaining its full functionality as before. Where courses have assignments, these are only now displayed when they need attention from the teacher (grading) or the student (submitting/resubmitting). For more details, see Dashboard.

New My grades page
The user menu now includes a new My grades page which display grades from all courses users are students in, with links to the relevant user reports. Courses users are teaching in are also displayed, with links to the relevant course gradebook. Find out more...

Browser sessions page
A new page displays your current browser sessions allowing you to check if you forgot to log off on a different computer (and log off now) and reassure yourself nobody is using your account. Read more....

Send messages from the page you're working on
A pop up box will appear when messaging users, meaning you can send messages without being sent away from the page you are currently viewing. Find out more hereI

Search Server files
Users with permissions to access Server files can now use a search facility, allowing for easy location of files in other courses they have access to. Read more about Server files
Activity enhancements

Quiz
Quizzes can now have section headings and questions can be shuffled on different pages. It is now possible to require that a particular question be answered before a subsequent one may be accessed, and quizzes along with responses and feedback will now display attractively when printed from the browser.
Course editing and enrolment

Faster addition of cohorts and metalinked courses
If you need to enrol a number of cohorts or multiple courses with the course metalink method, you can do this much more quickly now with a new "Add method and create another" button, meaning you can repeat the process without having to return to the enrolment screen and start again.

Email replies to forum posts
For added convenience, you can now reply to forum posts by email, and even include attachments! Read more...
New options for Quiz, Choice and Assignment

Improved Quiz edit screen and completion settings
The Edit quiz page has been rewritten for improved accessibility, making it much easier to add and manage questions. See Building Quiz. You can also set completion conditions based on a passing grade or when all available attempts have been used up.

More than one choice with Choice
You can now allow users to select more than one choice when creating a Choice. Read more.

Additional files for assignments
Teachers can now attach files for students when setting up assignments, such as example submissions or answer templates. See Assignment settings.

Stay in touch by subscribing to events
Event monitoring allows teachers, managers and admins to create and subscribe to events
Cohorts

Cohorts can be created on upload
Admins and managers can create cohorts using a csv file either, either from the Cohorts screen or when uploading users. Teachers can now by default enrol cohorts visible to them. Read more....

A new 'All Cohorts' screen for admins
Administrators can now have a clear overview of all system and category cohorts from the new All cohorts screen. See Cohorts.
