My Profile AND Site pages

My profile

I noticed a while back from a forum post that the page My Profile redirects to Update profile and yet I wonder if we should actually have a My Profile page (linking to updating profile and others) because there is a link in the navigation block that is called My Profile and it expands to include, for example your forum posts, blogs, messages etc - I can't find anywhere in the docs that actually explains the purpose of the "My Profile" link in the navigation block. It is mentioned in the page Navigation block but not dealt with in any detail. Should it have more detail on the navigation block page or have its own page? Likewise...

Site pages

And on the subject of the navigation block, there is mention but no explanation of Site pages there either. I did a search for site pages and couldn't find anything in the docs (though that might be me searching!) I feel it needs an explanation - should it have more explanation on the navigation block page or should it have its own page?--Mary Cooch 01:17, 12 March 2012 (WST)

Any thoughts on My Profile and Site pages info?

Does anyone have any suggestions for this or is the documentation OK as it is?--Mary Cooch 21:14, 15 March 2012 (WST)

Hi Mary, re 'My profile' I came across User profiles so added see also links between it and Update profile. I notice Update profile has a section 'Adding a new user' which appears to duplicate Add a new user. Thus it seems all this profile stuff could do with a bit of tidying up. Where do you think is the most logical place for profile stuff - within Managing accounts or Site appearance? One more thing, whilst I'm thinking about it: I don't think it is explained anywhere about each user having a full profile and a course profile.--Helen Foster 21:20, 16 March 2012 (WST)
Re. the course profile, I noticed that the 'Moodle Docs for this page' link is wrong and reported it as MDL-32088.
Re. site pages, how about adding documentation to Navigation or Navigation block (wherever you think it fits best) then if the page becomes to long, we can think about creating a new page for it. --Helen Foster 21:39, 16 March 2012 (WST)

profile

Hi Helen. I think profile stuff should maybe go in Managing Accounts because if you think about other sites people use - if you want to update your profile you would click on the accounts link,so readers of the docs might expect to find our profile stuff there.

site pages

I will take a look at the best place for site pages and add some info in there now.--Mary Cooch 20:13, 17 March 2012 (WST)

Update/Edit profile

I have spent some time getting my head around this today because there are several pages on similar topics -not only Update profile but also User profiles AND User profile (singular) which redirects from View profile (and is misleading) and I still think there should be a page explaining the My Profile link - and you are right; there is no mention of full/course profiles. I will try to revamp these but I'm not sure myself what is the best approach :) --Mary Cooch 22:29, 22 March 2012 (WST)

Thanks for volunteering Mary :-) I expect that by actively constructing the docs, you'll figure out the best approach and end up with a really good understanding of it all! --Helen Foster 22:36, 22 March 2012 (WST)

General

Text editor

This page should explain the repercussions of changing the 'Text editor' option on your, or a student's, profile. If you change this value does it mean that Moodle will use the text editor that you select throught Moodle? And will all pages, throughout Moodle, that have a text editor use the editor that you specify here? --Luis de Vasconcelos (talk) 19:20, 16 October 2014 (WST)
