The URL downloader repository enables users to enter the URL of an image (any type e.g. png, jpg) for copying into Moodle. It may also be used to obtain all images from a web page by entering the web page address. Support for arbitrary file types will be added in MDL-27336.

URL Downloader plugin is used to obtain resources by providing a url to webpage or file.


If user provides a html web page, Moodle will parse the web page to list all images used in web page.


If user provides a link to file, Moodle will try to download this file no matter what type it is.

There is just one capability, [[Capabilities/repository/url:view|Use URL downloader in file picker]], which is allowed for the default authenticated user role.
