Wikimedia repository plugin and 'locally' hosted Mediawiki instances

Hi folks,

Would it be possible to configure the Wikimedia repository plugin to point to a 'locally' hosted Mediawiki instance, rather than, or as well as, to Wikipedia/Wikimedia themselves?

And would it be possible to just link to files in such a local instance of Mediawiki, rather than have to copy the files into Moodle?
