Update timezones

The update timezones page provides Administrator with the option to update their local database with new information about world timezones.

Funcionality

Moodle will search for new information about world timezones (including daylight savings time rules) and update your local database with this information. Please note that these locations will be checked, in order:

1. /var/www/demo/moodledata/temp/olson.txt
2. /var/www/demo/moodledata/temp/timezones.txt
3. http://download.moodle.org/timezones/
4. /var/www/html/demo/lib/timezones.txt

If the update is completed with success, Moodle will inform how many entries were update and which location was used as a source.

Safety

While this procedure is generally very safe and can not break normal installation, you are asked if you want to update your timezones. Click Yes if you want to update the timezones or click No if you don't.

Editing User Timezones

It is possible for the Administrator to edit a user's timezone.

• On the home page in the administration block
• Select Users,
• Accounts, and then
• Browse list of users.
• Find the user and
• Click on the edit link. This brings you to their profile page.
• Select the timezone from the Timezone drop-down menu and then
• Click the Update profile button at the bottom of the page.

Note that the timezones are referenced to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) and that the default Server's local time is set to the local time in Perth, Australia.
