I think it is important to make the difference between course completion and activity completion. For instance, you can have activity completion without having course completion. So your students can see their progress with those ticks/checks against each activity because of activity completion. They see how many they have to do before their course is marked complete if the course completion block is visible and course completion conditions have been set. --Mary Cooch 01:48, 10 October 2011 (WST)

Thanks Mary. I did not encompass activity completion until this morning. I thought advanced settings needed to have course completion turned on before you could see the activity completion settings? I thought I checked that yesterday in demo.moodle.net. Also, I hope that this whole subject works for 2.0 :) --Chris collman 21:07, 10 October 2011 (WST)

Yes you need to have completion tracking enabled in Advanced settings and then either in course default settings or the course itself you need to have the completion tracking begins on enrolment checked. But what I have (very badly explained!) is that you can track activity completion without also having set course completion criteria or added one of the course completion blocks.--Mary Cooch 21:17, 10 October 2011 (WST)

I am sure we are thinking the same. "Completion tracking", "Course completion" and "Activity completion" are all different things. Humm, I think I will check my use of labels, could be I was confuzeled about the term used in Advanced features. Thanks! :)
