I installed the PHP package and it wreaked havoc on my Apache2 (I wasn't able to do a sudo apachectl -k graceful any more).
Turns out my PHP package was already up to php 5.2.6 (my server is 10.5.6)
So instead of installing a new PHP package, I went to the php.ini file and uncommented out the line: extension=php_gd2.dll
The extension php_gd2.dll should be useful for Windows only but not for Mac OS X.
You need to install the GD Library on Mac OS X 10.5.8
Clarification of security measures/overall guidance
I am a teacher, not a network admin, and I am supervising the new install of Moodle on Mac OS X Server 10.5 for active use by 75 teachers and 600 students. Eventually, it will be used by approximately 100 teachers and 900 students. It will be accessible within the school via intranet and off-campus via internet.
So far, from searching the moodle docs it seems like this (article/package) is what I need to be using. However, I have some concerns:
1. Am I in the right place? Is there a better set of instructions for me?
2. In the article overview, it says "... but if you are planning to set up a Moodle internet server on a Mac then you should think about some more security as the ever local package could give." What thoughts should I (we-my school) have about some more security? Where can I find instructions on adding the necessary measures?
3. Is there a known way to one-click sync user/teacher/class lists from our SMS, Chancery? Is that what LDAP is?
4. What is CVS? Is that the best way to keep my/our Moodle current?
