INI-LECTURE_A RECAP OF SCHOOL CHEMISTRY

A history of your learning to date:

In Grade 6 you learned about the particle model of solid liquids and gases. You may remember you learned that the more kinetic energy molecules had the more they moved. This movement caused the chemical overall to behave in a different way. We found out that all gases for example can be compressed, that liquids cannot and solids certainly cannot. [1]

However we also learned that there were many chemical elements on Earth and these all had different properties. by properties we learned they looked different, they had different melting points and boiling points, some did not react with other, while some chemicals such as the precious metals did not react at all. We started learning that the particles that these chemical elements are made from are called atoms and the atom for each type of element was slightly different. We also learned that some elements could combine and that this process of combining is called a reaction. These reactions are visible in many different ways. When chemicals combine they can make molecules and compounds and we studied the difference between between the words, atoms, elements, compounds and mixtures

in Grade 7 we started learning why these chemical elements were different.
