In order to see the actual chat progress, it is recommended if you can run two different types of browsers (eg. Firefox and Explorer). (Notes. We need to do this so that Moodle treats us as two different users although we are running from the same machine). Login as an admin/teacher and student.

  1. Click on ‘A repeating chat with public session logs’ from both admin/teacher and student windows. This chat-module features session logging that allows anyone to see the log contains the conversation that has happened before.
  2. Click the link ‘Click here to enter the chat now’ from both windows, and you should get pop up windows to chat. Type any words from those two windows. Pretend that you are having conversation with yourself 
  3. Close both windows and click the link ‘View past chat sessions’.
  4. On this new page, you should get a new page with a link ‘See this session’, click that link and you should see a transcript of the conversation that you made before.

  1. Click on ‘A repeating chat without public session logs’ from both admin/teacher and student windows. The difference with the previous chat-module is that student will not be able to see the session log. Only admin/teacher has the privilege to
  2. Click the link ‘Click here to enter the chat now’ from both windows, and you should get pop up windows to chat. Type any words from those two windows. Pretend that you are having conversation with yourself 
  3. Close both chat windows and refresh both browsers. From the admin/teacher access, you should see a link ‘View past chat sessions’, however you should not see that link from the student access browser.
  4. Admin/teacher then should be able to access the page with the links ‘See this session’ that gives access to the transcript of the conversation that you made before.

[Assuming it’s proceeded in sequential order]

  1. Click Continue button.
  2. You should be directed to the same that you have right before you see the chat transcript. This time, choose the Delete this session link.
  3. You should get a confirmation question, and choose Yes
  4. The transcript then should be gone from the list.
