Talk:Developer meeting February 2008

From MoodleDocs

I have added the agenda item of "Lessons learned in getting 1.9 ready for release". While I recognize there is limited time in this meeting, with the imminent release, it would be a great time to reflect on the process of getting a version ready for release. For my issue, I will be suggesting that rather than relying on happening upon a few institutions that might jump the gun and put a Beta version into production to do real field testing, that instead a few diverse learning environments with appropriate development resources be identified and even recruited to take the lead of working with a proposed system. In exchange, they would be given special consideration in terms of keeping their system stable during the final beta testing process. This may avoid issues like groupings, roles, (what could have been issues with the gradebook), and other possible premature additions before full deployment discovered problems that could have been found with smaller scale field testing. There may be other lessons learned as well that should be aired. I would suggest that this part be time limited with additional discussion to take place in the forums. It should also be forward looking aimed at improving the release process in the future Gary Anderson 20:18, 12 February 2008 (CST)
