Nwiki to Moodle 2.0 Migration

From MoodleDocs

About the migration

This page is about howto migrate a Moodle 1.9.8 (or later) in wich the latest NWik module has been installed to replace the standard wiki to Moodle 2.0 and its new wiki engine.

The process is a bit of a hack, and it has to be performed as LAST STEP BEFORE MIGRATING TO MOODLE 2.0. It works like this. We distribute a special version of nwiki that transforms the database tables of nwiki so they can be ported to moodle 2.0 with the moodle 2.0 standard migration process.

BUT

After you install this nwiki version the Wiki WILL NOT LONGER WORK UNTIL YOU UPGRADE TO MOODLE 2.0.

IMPORTANT: Before Migrating

  • It is highly recommended to perform a complete backup of all the wiki module as this migration manipulates databases and if anything should go wrong it could cause data loss.
  • Once the migration process has been applied successfully the moodle installation will no longer be operational and an upgrade to moodle 2.0 is mandatory.

Step by step migration

Step 1: Download migration files

First of all download the migration package from this page and extract the files from the package.

Step 2: Copy migration files

Copy the wiki folder extracted from the migration package into your moodleroot/mod folder and replace all files when prompted.

Step 3: Run the moodle upgrade process

Once all the files are copied, access moodle as administrator and the upgrade process will be triggered. After this process has finished there should be a message that clearly states that the migration has been successful and there won't be any way (button, link...) to return to the home page as that moodle installation won't work once this point is reached. If usage is attempted the the upgrade process will trigger and a message prompting to upgrade to moodle 2.0 will be shown.

Step 4: Upgrade to moodle 2.0

Once the migration process has been completed an upgrade to moodle 2.0 is required. Please check Upgrading to Moodle 2.0
