HI Colin.

I think you might cause confusion if you say that assigning the role of student in the front page means they will automatically be enrolled in all courses - I think you meant assigning them the system role (that can be done on the front page but isn't the front page role?) YOu can use student as your default front page role or you can assign some individual as a student on the front page but they still only work in the courses they are enrolled in. Might be useful to make clearer the difference between front page roles and roles assigned from the "assign system roles" screen? In Moodle 2.0 you can reach the site admin block from within a course as well so assigning roles doesn't necessarily have to be done on or from the front page
