I am very excited about working with each child and parent this year. I know it will be a successful school year for all involved. I believe an open line of communication between child, parent and teacher is vital to the educational and social success of each student. Please, feel free to call or email me any time. I will make phone calls and write emails throughout the year. I am looking forward to calling and/or writing with positive information about your son/daughter.

I would like to share a little about my family and me. I graduated from Wayne State University with degree in education. I played one year of baseball and four years of football. I later earned my Masters from Marygrove College. I am beginning my 22nd year of teaching. This is the start of my 18th year at Birney. My wife, Carolyn Popp, Mrs. Popp to your sons and daughters, also teaches at Birney. We both teach in the area of technology. We have six incredible children. Whitney, 19, Frankie, 18, Valerie, 17, Katie, 16, Andrew, 15 and David, 10. Needless to say, we face the same "teen" issues you do as parents. I believe this helps us to be the best teachers we can be.

Please, at any time during the year, ask your child/children what is being done in class. They should be able to provide you with a solid answer.
