Configuring and using the Tinymath Editor
NOTE: The Tinymath editor is an enhanced version of the TinyMCE editor used in Moodle 2. It is part of the Maths toolbox developed for Moodle by Mauno Korpelainen, SEE. While it is reasonably certain that this tool works as expected, the coding requires more extensive testing, i.e. field testing, to make sure that it does work properly. Thisd testing should be done in a test site BEFORE applying to a production site.
Basic Configuration
- This assumes you have installed and configured Tinymath editor to be your default editor.
Go to Site administration > Plugins > Text editors > Tinymath editor page.
Each of these provide Administrators with the doorway into reconfiguring the Tinymath editor in way that may suit their Moodle. You do not need to just accept the defaults.
Lower down in the you have the opportunity to add in or remove TeX characters and symbols to make them part of the Tinymaths editor default character set.
Configuring the Toolbars.
Most of the toolbar buttons are the same, but the default setting in Tinymath editor hides the third toolbar at start up. Some of the Moodle/TinyMCE editor buttons have been replaced with Maths specific buttons, as shown in the image below. (The top half image is the default Moodle 2 TinyMCE editor tool bars. The bottom half is the Tinymath editor tool bars.)
If you want to spend the time, you can actually edit the buttons yourself and change them to suit your particular Moodle. Make sure you back up any change you make, or rather, back up after every change you make. When you replace your Moodle with an update, you may lose your changes. Replacing them with your last backup will be a lot easier than rewriting all your changes.
