Activity completion FAQ
Where has the manual completion button moved in Moodle 5.2?
From Moodle 5.2, the manual completion button has been relocated to the activity header at the top of the activity page. In earlier versions it appeared at the bottom of the activity or as a dropdown on the course page.

How do I know when I have completed an activity with automatic conditions?
From Moodle 5.2, when all automatic completion criteria are met, a "Done" status label appears in the activity header. You no longer need to return to the course page to check your completion status. It is visible at the top of the activity itself.
Where can I see what I need to do to complete an activity?
From Moodle 5.2 onwards, completion criteria are shown in a redesigned panel within the activity page. The panel lists each condition and whether it has been met, so students can see their progress without leaving the activity.
The completion indicators look different.
Moodle 5.2 introduced a redesigned completion display as part of the Course linear navigation improvements. The manual completion button now appears in the activity header, automatic completion shows a "Done" label in the header when all conditions are met, and the criteria list has a new visual layout inside the activity page.
What happens when completion conditions are unlocked?
Once you unlock options and then click 'Save changes', all completion information for the activity will be deleted and, if possible, regenerated according to the new settings. See the section 'What happens when you unlock' in Activity completion settings for further details.
Can I change the default completion settings for activities in my course?
Yes. See Activity completion settings for how to do this.
Activity completion status does not change
Check Site administration > Server > Scheduled tasks and the task Calculate completion data. This should ideally be once a minute.
