Our mobile application is completely free for end users! They don't have to pay anything to access all the functionality that helps them access their courses.

However, organisations have the option to subscribe to our Pro/Premium plans or purchase a Branded Moodle App (BMA). All of the previous are designed to provide exclusive features that can benefit them.

Purchasing a plan or a BMA is a way to contribute to Moodle's sustainability.

Features available via the different plans

Active devices for Push notifications

Calculated monthly, this is the number of user devices actively receiving push notifications from the Moodle site. For example, for a site with 200 users enrolled, if half of them are using the app with one device configured to receive notifications, the potential number of active devices per month will be 100. Multimedia Push notifications

For Android only, the Push notifications received by your users will be able to include images and similar messages will be grouped, for example, when receiving private messaging notifications. Requires activation via the Moodle Apps Portal.

Custom site listing in search results

Your users will be able to find your site by name in addition to typing the complete site’s URL. You can configure how your site information is displayed in the “Site finder” including adding an image for your site and additional information.

QR login

Your users will be able to log in to the app by scanning a QR login available in their Moodle site profile. Requires activation via Moodle LMS 3.9 onward site administration settings

Biometric login

Your users will be able to quickly access the app by just using their fingerprint or Face ID. For security reasons, your users will be asked to perform a normal log in periodically (depending on your Moodle site security settings). Please notice that Requires activation first via the Moodle Apps Portal and the user.

Offline courses per device per site

Course content downloaded individually will be always available offline, but the user will be able to download complete courses for offline access to a certain limit depending on the plan.

Basic branding

Using an online tool, admins will be able to customise just the colours of the mobile app for their site (login screen included). Requires activation via the Moodle Apps Portal.

Integration with Matomo Analytics

For organisations using Matomo Analytics on their Moodle site, it is also possible to track their user interactions on the app. To use this integration, you will need to have your own instance of Matomo.

It also requires activation via the Moodle Apps Portal. For details, visit Moodle app guide for admins.

Customisable app’s features via Moodle LMS site administration

Certain app functionality can be configured via the Moodle site. Depending on your plan, you will be able to only apply a certain number of configurations, for example, adding only one custom menu item for the free tier.

  • Custom menu item: you can include your own links within the mobile app. Your custom links will be available via the “more” menu, the three-dots menu at the bottom of the app.
  • Disabled features: you can select which Moodle features, such as blocks, and modules, won’t be available on your app.
  • Custom strings: you can customise the language strings available on the Moodle app

For details, visit Moodle app guide for admins.

Google Analytics for Firebase

Google Analytics for Firebase is a free tool that provides valuable insights and data about how users interact with mobile apps. For compliance with GDPR, users will be able to disable it at any time.
