Repositories in Moodle enable users to upload files, access previously uploaded files and to easily bring content into Moodle from external repositories, such as Flickr or Google Docs. Enabled repositories are available in the File picker. (Note that you cannot upload files into a repository from Moodle.)

Standard repositories

Repositories are managed in Site administration > Plugins > Repositories > Manage repositories.

Repositories enabled by default

  • Embedded files - Allows linking to files and images available to the user that have been added/embedded in courses and activities
  • Server files - Gives access to files elsewhere on Moodle (limited by a user's permissions)
  • Recent files - Shows the last 50 files you have uploaded, according to the context
  • Upload a file - Enables the "Upload a file" option in the site to allow users to browse for and upload files
  • Private files - Enables access to a personal storage area for every user
  • URL downloader - Allows downloading of files and images from a particular URL
  • Wikimedia - Let's users search for and display media from Wikimedia
