Spanish I
Hello, and welcome to Spanish I. My names is Mrs Carothers and I will be your instructor for this course. If you have any questions regarding this course, or questions with your assignments or homework, you can email me at amylcarothers@gmail.com. I check my email all day, so feel free to email me!
In this course, we will learn the fundamentals of Spanish I. We will learn to ask other how they are feeling, greet and say goodbye, how to talk about preferences and hobbies, how to order in a restaurant, common traveling expressions, how to conduct a phone conversation in Spanish, as well as address specific written skills in Spanish. We will learn how to use verbs in the present and past tense in Spanish as well as describe situations using descriptive adjectives.
You will have several options for completing your work online. With the advent of Web 2.0, there are many programs available to students to create meaningful work that displays the content you have learned. For each assignment, you will be given the option to demonstrate what you have learned through various programs using the Internet, or using applications on your computer. Some examples of this include Garage band, Imovie, blogging, sharing google documents, wiki projects and other suggested web programs.
I will base part of your learning curriculum on ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education, www.iste.org) and cover standards for evaluating skills and standards needed in today's world; Digital age skills are vital for preparing students to work, live, and contribute to the social and civic fabric of their communities. Some of the areas covered under these technology standards are research and information, critical thinking, digital citizenship, creativity and and innovation, and communication and collaboration. In addition to that, we will cover national foreign language standards (http://www.actfl.org/files/public/StandardsforFLLexecsumm_rev.pdf) and cover standards under the umbrella of Communication, Culture, Comparisons, Communities and Connections. These 5 "C's" of language learning ensure that students are able to "communicate successfully and a pluralistic society and abroad."
Welcome to Spanish I!
