A category is a level in the hierarchy of "spaces" or contexts within Moodle. Under the System context, the Category context is the next level.

Category is the highest level container for sub-categories and courses.

Roles assigned at the category level affect every sub-category and course contained within that category.

Sub-Category

A sub-category is a division of a category.
