This error message appears when a file is uploaded to Site administration>Courses>Upload courses and the file is either:

  • an incorrectly formatted .csv file, in which case, please check Upload courses

or

or

  • a completely different file such as an .mbz or .tgz file (a Moodle course backup)
Note: If you see this errror when uploading an .mbz or tgz file, you should be using Course restore instead.
