Template:Assignments An Assignment is an activity that a teacher can select by a pull down menu in a course topic or week section. This page is about the Assignment settings, also found with the Update Assignment button.

Settings for specific assignment types (1.7 onwards)

Each assignment type, except offline assignment, has further settings which are detailed on the relevant assignment type pages:

4 Write an adjectival phrase in the blank.

ex: I’d like some of that cake ___ . _____________

      Paintings ___ were on the walls.		_____________

4 Write an adverbial phrase in the blank. ex: Sally ran ___. _____________

     	     The sandcastle was built____.		_____________

7 Underline the prepositional phrase in each sentence. Mark whether the phrase is adjectival or adverbial.

ex: Grandma came to the house. The group of students sat together. She talked into the microphone.

4 Write the simple subject and the simple predicate. Subject Predicate ex: Mrs. Leciejewski gave us homework. ___________ ___________ The men explored the volcano. ___________ ___________

5 Add words to create a complete sentence. ex: into the tunnel _________________________________________________________

5 Separate the subject from the predicate with a line ex: Erica won the grand prize. The green grass was very long.

3 Writing sentences that have a compound subject, predicate, or both.

4 Mark whether sentence is natural or inverted. Natural Inverted ex: Through the woods ran the jogger. The teacher read a story to the children.

4 Mark the correct type of sentence declar, interr, imper, or exclam. ex: I saw a goose on the way to school. Dec Int Imp Exc Hand me that pencil. Dec Int Imp Exc 4 Underline the subject and predicate in the independent clause in each compound sentence. Circle the coordinate conjunction. ex: Sheila sang a song, but Julie danced a jig. She looked angry, yet she did not yell.

2 Combine each pair of simple sentences to form one compound sentence. ex: We may go to the movies tonight. We may go bowling. ______________________________________________________________

Group mode

When course group mode is turned on, the group mode can be one of three levels: no groups, separate groups or visible groups.

ID number

Setting an ID number provides a way of identifying the assignment for grade calculation purposes. If the activity is not included in any grade calculation then the ID number field can be left blank.

Tips and tricks

  • Want to use an Assignment activity again? Copy the assignment by backing up the course and selecting just the assignment, with or without students and their data. Restore the backup to the same course or to a new course. Move the copied assignment and or edit it.
  • Want to use an Assignment activity in another course you teach? Use the import function in the course administration block.
