Turnitin is a commercial plagiarism detection system and there are currently 3 different options available to use within Moodle.
Turnitin is a commercial paper submission system, you must have a paid subscription to this service to use this feature. This integration is part of Moodle 2.0, and there is a 3rd party patch available for Moodle 1.9 users. Turnitin also provide their own custom Assignment type that provides SSO into their paper submission system and pushes back grades from their internal grading system back into Moodle. It has been added to the upload and uploadsingle assignment types, but eventually support will be added to other areas. This is a generic plugin system and other Plagiarism products will be added in future. A standalone Module for Moodle 1.9 has been developed by Nlearning (UK based Turnitin Support agency) - This module is similar to the advanced assignment type in Moodle, however it adds a range of Turnitin specific functionality. for more detail see: http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=149575

A new Plagiarism Prevention plugin system is available in Moodle 2.0 written by Dan Marsden from Catalyst IT which allows existing Modules to "call" the plagiarism service. It has been added to the upload and uploadsingle assignment types, but eventually support will be added to other areas.
