“Sorry, but your IP number seems to have changed from when you first logged in. This security feature prevents crackers stealing your identity while logged in to this site. Normal users should not be seeing this message - please ask the site administrator for help.”

This sounds frightening, but there are a number of legitimate reasons this error can appear:

  • Perhaps, while logged in to Moodle, you switched between a wired and a wireless network, or between wireless access points. In this case, just go back to your site, log out (this should be an option at the bottom of the error page), and log back in.
  • If you use AOL, their service sets up a proxy between you and the Internet that can confuse Moodle. One way around this, particularly if you have another Internet Service Provider, is to install Firefox.

If you continue to see this message after trying these remedies, contact your instructor or Moodle administrator.
