A site administrator who has access to the Moodle code can easily install a new theme Moodle theme.  Once installed, the theme will be available via the appropriate site, category, course or activity menu.

Setting up a new theme in Moodle is a two step process.  First someone has to install the theme in the Moodle site.  Second, the theme must be selected for use.


Custom themes are available for download from the [http://moodle.org/plugins/browse.php?list=category&id=3 Moodle Plugins directory].

You may select the theme which will be used on three different types of devices that will use your site: a computer with monitor(s), a mobile phone and a tablet. Some themes will can be additionally modified for a specific device.

You may select different themes depending upon the device that will be viewing Moodle.  For example, you might have one theme for computers with monitors and another for mobile phones and another for tablets.

Changing the theme

  1. Log in as admin and go to Administration > Site administration > Appearance > Themes > Theme Selector
  2. Click on the "Change theme" button on the right of the current theme being used for the device
  3. Scroll down to find the theme you wish to use
  4. Click the "Use theme" button next to that theme
  5. Moodle will tell you it has been saved as the default theme
  6. Check your Moodle site

Notes:
