In order for teachers to make the most out of the roles and permissions functionality, it is highly recommended that you enable teachers to set role overrides for students. To do so, you need to first allow the capability to override roles and then set which role(s) teachers can override.

#Access ''Administration > Users > Permissions > Define roles''.
#Edit the teacher role and change the capability [[Capabilities/moodle/role:override|moodle/role:override]] to allow.
#Click the button "Save changes".
#Click the tab "Allow role overrides" (in ''Administration > Users > Permissions > Define roles'')
#Check the checkbox where the teacher row and the student column intersect to allow a teacher to override the student role.
#Click the button "Save changes".
