Grade publishing is a way of importing and exporting grades via a URL without being logged in to Moodle. Grade publishing is intended for administrators only, due to the security implications.
Grade publishing is disabled by default. It can be enabled by checking the gradepublishing box in ''Administration > Grades > [[General grade settings|Grade settings]]''. Users with grade publishing capabilities (normally administrators only) are then provided with grade export publishing settings.

Grades may be exported in several formats. Select the Grade icon in the course administration block. In 1.9 use the View pull down menu to select the export format. Download format choices are: Excel spreadsheet, OpenOffice spreadsheet, plain text file or XML file.

The report layout and content for each downloading format is robust in 1.9, with many options. Some of these can be set in "My report preferences", or in the screen which appears after the download format has been selected.


Spreadsheet formats

In general, spreadsheet organize user information they way it is seen. The first few columns contain user information, The grade columns for each activity are placed in the order they appear in the course. For example, a course section 2 assignment grade column will be placed before a section 3 quiz grade column.
