Suggestions for prioritizing building technology needs
Perhaps we should prioritize a baseline level of technology needs. As a building, we are behind Louisa- Muscatine and Wilton in that our rooms lack standard technology which at the most basic level requires an updated computer and LCD ceiling mounted projector and screen. These should be classroom standards, especially since our new teachers are taught today to use these items on a daily basis (and 80% of our staff is new) above.
This means that we start at the base of the pyramid and work our way up, which means computer labs should get a facelift also, as much as that kills me to say! At least the new desktop models are very cheap right now. My department only needs two. What other numbers are out there? Figure 400 to 450.00 for a great desktop model. For $30,000 we could replace 70 computers, leaving money for 30 mounted projectors in 30 rooms: I could use 5 projectors—your numbers? Ideas?
