BIM allows individual students to register RSS/ATOM feeds and for the teaching staff to manage and mark entries in those feeds. The original intended use was for students to use external blogs as reflective journals.

The module has been used at a couple of Australian universities. More information is available on the this page including a video that provides an overview of BIM based on a MoodleMoot'AU 2010 presentation.

Differences betwen BIM and Moodle's blog services

BIM's focus is very much on helping teachers manage, observe and if wanted mark student blogs. Moodle's blog services and it's ability to integrate external blogs is different. It's much more focused on helping authors publish a blog. See this post for more explanation of this difference.

Installation

The process of adding BIM to CONTRIB has commenced, in the meantime

Use

Some videos created for BIM 1.0 are available and still largely appropriate for BIM 2.0

There are also two videos for staff marking a BIM activity
