Line 1: Line 1:
A user is a participant who is allowed onto a Moodle site.  Earlier versions of Moodle assigned simple roles to define a user's permissions. As Moodle matures, these permissions have become more granulated through the use of roles in context. Typical user roles are administrators, teachers, and students.

This page will offer links to learn more about specific ways an administrator or teacher can work with user definations and roles with the 1.7 menu system.  Older versions of Moodle may have similar user functions, which can be found in the same general menu area as 1.7.

::For example, all versions have a User link in the Administration block with a sub menu that allows  an add/edit user function.  Version 1.7 has a new User catagory called "Permissions", which contains add/edit/assign permission functions for the site.
