'23 things' a way to learn Moodle - Vanessa Tuckfield, CIT

Vanessa is an educational copyright expert - CIT library staff are involved in implementing new LMS (WebCT -> Moodle/Wimba/Equella). Vanessa described a 10-week, 1-hour a week flexible learning support program for helping staff to learn their new system, using the "23 things" model for learning Web2.0 skills.

  1. CIT uses Moodle (LMS), Wimba (Live classroom) and Equella (Learning object repository)
  2. Library's role is help staff learn to use these tools
  3. "23 things" is a method/process for learning web 2.0 - CIT is using/adapting this approach to help staff learn Moodle/Wimba
  4. 10 week course - 1 hour per week, n = 33 - teaching and learning staff

    15. Embed Youtube / Teachertube
    16. Twitter/Yammer
    17. Locate 'free' learning objects - cc-licensed from Flickr
    18. Deposit object in eLR repository

  7. There were two facilitators engaging throughout - used "chocolate frog" incentive
  8. 1/3rd completed early and were very engaged; most completed everything OK; a few didn't
  9. WebCT4 migrated to Moodle with objects harvested to Equella for local area access, university access - but staff culture isn't prepared yet for full open access
