Revision as of 08:56, 10 June 2011

If you are using Moodle day in and day out as user, the navigation can be a little trying. There is evidence of some ongoing conversations about this which include people jumping ship. This from 2009: http://moodle.org/mod/forum/post.php?reply=562017 I'd love to see some changes. All four major Moodle distros (ELIS, Joule, TotaraLMS and Moodle in Schools) have coded items added to solve this problem. Hopefully it will not take Moodle Core much to sort something.

THE SCROLL OF DEATH

Looking for some way to avoid the Navigation menu scroll of death in core Moodle. Just quick and unfinished notes about options for navigation. I keep losing the dispersed nature of this effort. Keeping thoughts here.

Option 1: THE SECTION MENU

I think a section menu is the simplest.

June 3 2011 - I knew someone was the originator of the section menu years ago. I've just found out it was Charles Kelly

The GIT repository: https://github.com/leizhang/moodle-block_menu_site_and_course

Request for Section menu to be in core: http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-27039

Option 2: FOLDERVIEW

A format, was going to be new in 2.1: http://www.moodlenews.com/2011/folderview-a-new-anti-scroll-of-death-course-format-for-moodle-2/

From Moodlerooms: http://manuals.moodlerooms.com/display/JOULE2/FolderView+Course+Format

Option 3: COLLAPSED SECTIONS

OTHER NAVIGATION THOUGHTS: the Navigation Block

Odd location of links

Why are reports in an unusual place? http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=116936#p744832

No reply at the moment: even Mary does not know the answer.
