I installed the PHP package and it wreaked havoc on my Apache2 (I wasn't able to do a sudo apachectl -k graceful any more). Turns out my PHP package was already up to php 5.2.6.
So instead of installing a new PHP package, I went to the php.ini file and uncommented out the line: extension=php_gd2.dll
