Course completion page should give the general idea of what this features does, and not focus upon the actual settings.  I am still unclear what settings belong here, so I may have added more than necessary in the introduction. the major points:
*Course completion must be enabled by the site administrator
*Course completion can stand on it's own, without going into each activity
*Activities can be specifically included in a course completion criterion
*Showing each student their progress can be an option
*Cron must run to reflect any changes
*Manual settings by student or teacher or both.
**In the course completion settings it can additionally, can force the teacher, non-editing teaching, and manager to all manually check an activity or course as complete.
**In the activity, it can allow the student to mark it complete.
*Automatic marked completion by criterion:
**In an activity it is student driven:  it can be by grade, if viewed or both.
**In a course it can be based upon specific activities the teacher selects
**In a course, it can also include an overall passing grade, number days enrolled or if they unenroll from the course.
* Aggregation method discussion: All and Any in what is a very complex matrix of choices.

In my production Moodle, I wanted students to be able to see if they had completed a questionnaire.  I think I had to turn on Advanced features > Completion tracking to see that pop up in the course settings so I could enable it and then go to the activity settings. Anyway, that is what I did and it worked :) Perhaps there is a shorter way.

Suggestions for page improvements

'Tell when a course is complete' Course_completion - OU, Jan 11, OK, maybe include a graph, mention similarity/differences with conditional activities, has Manual completion sections, might add Automatic Completion

good link to Course completion screencast (Mary's) -could insert HQ clip on Activity completion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6vjgfMae8U (mess though, it has both activity and course completion)

Again, must distinguish this clearly from Conditional activities!

M, common/creative uses of this function in one place...
check Self completion block too, not sure.

Additional comments

Course completion page should give the general idea of what this features does, and not focus upon the actual settings. I am still unclear what settings belong here, so I may have added more than necessary in the introduction. the major points:

  • Course completion must be enabled by the site administrator
  • Course completion can stand on it's own, without going into each activity
  • Activities can be specifically included in a course completion criterion
  • Showing each student their progress can be an option
  • Cron must run to reflect any changes
  • Manual settings by student or teacher or both.
    • In the course completion settings it can additionally, can force the teacher, non-editing teaching, and manager to all manually check an activity or course as complete.
    • In the activity, it can allow the student to mark it complete.
  • Automatic marked completion by criterion:
    • In an activity it is student driven: it can be by grade, if viewed or both.
    • In a course it can be based upon specific activities the teacher selects
    • In a course, it can also include an overall passing grade, number days enrolled or if they unenroll from the course.
  • Aggregation method discussion: All and Any in what is a very complex matrix of choices.

Condition for entering another course?

Mary boiled it down. Chris deleted his comments and left what he thought was the essense.

Hi Chris - see the tracker entry where they explain course prerequisite does NOT mean banning access to a course and also the ongoing semantic argument about what to call course prerequisite :) http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-22259 Mary Cooch

The reason I noticed this was that there has been confusion with the term "course prerequisite" that is used in the course completion tracking settings - you can set a named course as a "prerequisite" for your current course completion - and people are assuming wrongly this means you cannot enter the current course until you have completed that previous named course -it doesn't mean that - it just means that you cannot have this current course completed until you have also completed the previous named course. A pity - as what people are assuming wrongly is what people would actually want to have - and we don't have it yet :( Mary Cooch

Well obviously, you are absolutely correct. I looked at the Developer:course completion page and there is no mention of this being used in a course setting as a condition. --Chris collman 16:32, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
Semantics, gotta love it. --Chris collman 18:04, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
