Positioning of blocks

Alongside where to put blocks in the TOC there is the issue of in which page do we put the stuff about how to configure a block when you click on its edit icon - I mean -all that complicated stuff with the wildcards ** (that I am still not sure of!) There is a page already with this information on but I can't find it again this morning. I suppose it belongs in managing a Moodle course although we need something for admins on sitewide "sticky blocks" in there as well. And there is also Ralf's comment in the tracker about the default blocks layout page which does have relevance for a moodle admin even though it's editing config.php--Mary Cooch 20:10, 2 October 2011 (WST)

You are brave. I have just dived into the admin bookmark block, it also has wildcards ??? Yikes. This whole context thing puts a different spin on the sticky block. Teachers can essentially create a sticky block in their course or even within an activity. I guess it is handy for a glossary to have a sticky block appear on every page in edit mode for the student. This kind of thing also relates to what I fondly remember as the plain sticky block, now a block that appears on the front page but can be stuck downward in the context levels.--Chris collman 23:29, 2 October 2011 (WST)

Mary and Chris, thanks for your comments. To be consistent with elsewhere in the TOC, I think Block settings is the place for documentation about configuring a block (still needs complicated stuff with the wildcards ** adding, which I'm not sure of either!) Managing blocks is similar to Managing activities. Block layout uses the blocks template and is linked to from 'Managing blocks'.
