| The higher you are on a mountain (altitude) the colder the temperature. The relationship between these two variables can be expressed as a linear function and equation. For example, if the temperature at sea level is 800F, then the linear function (equation) that would represent the relationship where the temperature (t) decreases as the altitude or height (h) of the mountain climber increases, would be t = 80 – 3.6h, where h = 1000 ft.
