'''https://docs.moodle.org/en/Scales#Creating_course_scales''' states:
''Write a detailed description in the Description box (highlighted in blue) for your scale. Your students will have access to the description, and you can use this to give them additional feedback. The more details you put in the description, the more students will understand what each scale item means.''

How Moodle Assigns Values to Scores in a Scale

I do not get the point of this section. Without research, the first draft was better than this.

You currently can't map a custom scale to a percentage value so that you can average together the scores on your custom scale and compute an overall grade for a category. Moodle's conversion of custom or non-numeric scales to percentages is unpredictable, and you're best off sticking with a standard 100% scale if you need to compute an average or aggregate your category averages into an overall grade.
Rule 1, tell people what it will do first, then note what it will not do. I will roll back and try an edit combining both. And maybe have to research Scales again on demo.moodle.org--Chris collman 13:01, 22 January 2009 (CST)
