Very interesting, I have not see the <nowiki>[[:pagename]]</nowiki> trick (transclusion mechanism?) before. Great suggestion Séverin.
*Where is the 1.8 category link being generated from that I see at the bottom. I thought it was being carried forward via the "trick", but happened to go to the 1.9.3 page and saw a 1.9 category at the bottom and none on this page.
*Roundtuit task?: Link to heading on another page that has other versions of 1.6, 1.7.  To help those who are looking for past revisions of a Moodle version branch. I will put in example for 1.8 <br>--[[User:chris collman|chris collman]] 05:59, 2 December 2008 (CST)

Revision as of 11:59, 2 December 2008

I think we should create a separate release notes page for each release, (Release Notes 1.9.4, Release notes 1.9.5, etc.). That would give the release notes for each release a permanent URL. Then we should use transclusion to make this page always include the latest release notes for each stable branch. This would also make it easier to start preparing release notes for future releases before the release actually happens.--Tim Hunt 23:45, 30 November 2008 (CST)

Thanks Tim, your suggestion has been implemented. Please feel free to make further edits or suggestions. --Helen Foster 04:58, 1 December 2008 (CST)

I think that it's very usefull to have a single page for (at least) all notes about one Moodle branch (for exemple : 1.9, 1.9.1, 1.9.2, 1.9.3...) And i don't think it will be easy to use transclusion mechanism to do that... or will have to change all heading levels. --Séverin Terrier 04:30, 1 December 2008 (CST)

Séverin, thanks for your comment. We could easily have a release notes page for each branch if you think it's necessary. I'll create a 1.9 page as soon as I have chance. --Helen Foster 04:58, 1 December 2008 (CST)
I've done some changes for 1.9 branch. Look and see if you think it could be good. Feel free to undo my changes otherwise. --Séverin Terrier 08:23, 1 December 2008 (CST)
Thanks a lot Séverin :-) I've followed your example and created 1.8, 1.7 and 1.6 branch pages. --Helen Foster 02:27, 2 December 2008 (CST)

Minor questions

Very interesting, I have not see the [[:pagename]] trick (transclusion mechanism?) before. Great suggestion Séverin.

  • Where is the 1.8 category link being generated from that I see at the bottom. I thought it was being carried forward via the "trick", but happened to go to the 1.9.3 page and saw a 1.9 category at the bottom and none on this page.
  • Roundtuit task?: Link to heading on another page that has other versions of 1.6, 1.7. To help those who are looking for past revisions of a Moodle version branch. I will put in example for 1.8
