Going Away

If I understand correctly, this module will disappear soon. I am really sorry, too, if that is true. It is very useful. :-(

The Dialogue is still here!

The Dialogue is still available and has been updated to be compatible with roles and capabilities, download from the Modules and Plugins page.

No Tracker items created

I have not created tracker items for the following requests

• Let the user specified the end date for the closed dialogue to be removed. Which I think it would be more flexible rather than the 7, 30,...,365 days options. > The Delete Closed Dialogues after (Days) field doesn't really suit a date input as a conversation can be closed at any time, this option determines how many days AFTER the conversation is closed it is deleted.

• Export entries (what format - Text, Html, xml??) > perhaps we should wait to see what 2.0 offers in the way of exporting before thinking about this development.

• Display the date that the dialogue was added > no other activity displays the date it was created. The date of the first entry is clearly displayed. What would the purpose of displaying the activity created date be?

• Don't display the "You have 30 mins to edit..." after submit, instead the user should be bought to the current dialogue and allowed to edit it even if it has passed 30mins limit. > because the edit time can be changed it is a good idea to publish how long the user has to edit this. CONTRIB-1453 will handle an editalways capability and CONTRIB-1455 handles viewing the current conversation after an edit.

Role of Dialogue vs Messaging

I notice this comment in the article here: "At the time he mentioned Messaging was the mechanism MartinD saw as the tool the core project would be supporting for this sort of activity, and that Dialogue was never actually intended to be anything other than an optional module"

Where is this at now? Maybe messaging is enhanced for 2.0. Any chance of Dialogue being included in the core? What is planned for 2.0 and 2.1? It seems to me this function of 1:1 conversation should be included somewhere in Moodle Core somehow The question is what is the best way to do it.

OU has it built into their forum module ForumNG. You can of course have groups of one and a separate groups forum (Clunky at best) and the Dialogue Activity. Thoughts anyone? Derek Chirnside 03:50, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
