Is this activity completion?

I think this is more to do with Activity completion rather than course completion although the two are interconnected? 08:01, June 25, 2010 Mary Cooch

No evidently we have Course completions (Course conditions, aka course prerequisites) and Conditional Activities. I am not sure what is Activity completion at this moment, but I shall soon find out --Chris collman 16:46, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Sigh - a rambling page

I decided to create a Course completion tracking and Course completion tracking settings pages, so called because the Course Setting menu calls it "Completion tracking" and the underlying page says "Course Completion Settings" and I failed to see this page (Course completion). And someplace we will have some sort of Advanced site administration setting to turn this feature on and off that may or maynot need a page. I suspect this page and "Course completion tracking" are probably similar.

I thought this page might be more for an administrator or course creator. If activity locking and conditional activities are any judge, this powerful feature has many levels. Right now this page presents a casual view of this subject, which I am not going to edit for the moment. Love this feature and really look forward to using it. --Chris collman 16:46, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi Chris, just come across this page (obviously!), Course completion tracking and Course completion tracking settings and decided to redirect 'Course completion tracking' to 'Course completion tracking settings' as they're about the same thing. Hoping you approve ;-) --Helen Foster 17:59, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Condition for entering another course?

Chris -re your changes - I don't think course completion can be used as a condition for entering another course? How were you thinking it did? Mary Cooch

Really <blush>? Well I thought once a student met the standards for completing the course Moodle101, they would be allowed to take the course Moodle102. I thought that it was used as a prerequisite setting. I thought that is what laddering or whatever was all about on a site wide basis. I use the phrase "I thought" because often times with me, wishful thinking is not the same thing as knowing :) I will post this and try to figure out why I thought. I am still a little overwhelmed by M2. Thanks for your comments and jumping in here! --Chris collman 15:38, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

The reason I noticed this was that there has been confusion with the term "course prerequisite" that is used in the course completion tracking settings - you can set a named course as a "prerequisite" for your current course completion - and people are assuming wrongly this means you cannot enter the current course until you have completed that previous named course -it doesn't mean that - it just means that you cannot have this current course completed until you have also completed the previous named course. A pity - as what people are assuming wrongly is what people would actually want to have - and we don't have it yet :( Mary Cooch

Well obviously, you are absolutely correct. I looked at the Developer:course completion page and there is no mention of this being used in a course setting as a condition. I spent 10 minutes in my localhost and did not find then found what lead me to believe there was a prerequisite.
What Chris saw, so what does it mean?

This was the basis of my assumption. Did I check it as a student...I do not remember. But I set a manual completion for a course, and in another course there it shows up in the course settings in the above screen. I got another 30 minutes to play on my localhost and your timezone. --Chris collman 16:32, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

While my son was packing, I see that this is not a prereq as I know it. I keep hoping that I do not know how to turn it on. Why in the world would an admin want to see a list of prereq courses if not to select them? And for the life of me I can not see how to select them and the all or any does not make any sense to me at this time. Time to go warm up the car for the 3 hour trip to Boston. We need to have a discussion in a forum instead of here. Semantics, gotta love it. --Chris collman 18:04, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi Chris - see here the tracker entry where they explain course prerequisite does NOT mean banning access to a course and also the ongoing semantic argument about what to call course prerequisite :) http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-22259 Mary Cooch
