Amen about the readme instructions! Just finished an install using 'my' step by step on an OS Windows XP Professional machine. It was a little scary how easy the non-Moodle part was. One of the tricks is to rename the C:\moodle to C:\xampplite immediately. Otherwise the user has to go into several php config files. And the readme files don't say which ones. (No I will not ask why it unzips to c:\moodle or the config files are all set to c:\xampplite. Rename the folder is a quick fix. Must be some technical reason the bald guy has missed, which can probably be found in the cobwebs of Moodle history :) )

What do you think, just put the link or duplicate the instructions from the link? What is the viewer of this page expecting. Could be how to install Moodle on a Window's server or could be how to install Moodle on a Window's localhost. --Chris collman 21:17, 24 July 2006 (WST)

The Quick installation is not exactly correct and is too complicated. I am going to change it. Thanks Nichole for the words which provided a good foundation. I have now installed a clean copy of Moodle 1.6 and 1.7 beta at least 6 times in the last month. Experts who disagree, please correct us. Thanks--Chris collman 10:00, 24 September 2006 (CDT)

This page had some good additions. I reorganized headings and sub heading so it would be clear for a new user. I wanted this user to see right where to go for an install on the page index. I was a little worried about the MySQL and Apache tips and tricks (there are other pages that really go into more detail about MySQL and Apache settings), so I consolidated them under their own heading.--Chris collman 09:41, 20 October 2007 (CDT)

Major change proposed -again

Moodle has been offering MacOS complete install packages for a while. Think we need to turn this page into a short page, with some generic instructions to indicate how easy either package is to install and what they will accomplish. Naturally should have clearly marked links to either the Windows or Mac OS Complete install packages.

OK so I was sleepy this morning and didn't read-remember the introduction that clearly states this is for WINDOWS ONLY. Didn't I insert that a few months after I noticed the Mac OS x tab at download.moodle.org ?  :) --Chris collman 06:06, 10 October 2007 (CDT)

Why caution?

This is the 18th most visited page (61,000 times) in MoodleDocs. 12 pages link here and it is listed in Admin and Install categories. I am going to jump off the cliff. Basically going to treat this as an index page with some general words and links to Mac OS install packages and to a new page Complete install packages for Windows. All the current content will be moved there. Firstly I will copy all the information from here to there. Add a new page

Helen, wonder if it would be OK to create a page Complete install packages for windows to go along with Complete Install Packages for Mac OS X . I would move the windows specific stuff there and then move links from this page as needed. I will review the guidelines and put this on my to do list. I am most concerned about relinking things in the context of other pages that link to this one. What about the Linux packages (deb and rpm)?

One thing missing from this page IMO is reference to Linux packages. In particular, Catalyst is maintaining a deb file for Debian which is also pulled into Ubuntu. A similar rpm package for RedHat, Fedora, OpenSUSE, or CentOS appears to be lacking. In any case, I would like to see that we make sure to provide Linux packages as well. Peace - Anthony
