Hmmm... There is a blocks manual out there somewhere. Should we links to it from here, or is that something better done in another section (for devlopers, maybe)?

Okay, found the document. It is here http://moodle.org/blocks/HOWTO.html and certainly is not meant for your average newbie. So, never mind. :-)
