Instructor Browses Available Outcomes and Maps Course to Appropriate Outcomes
An instructor has been instructed by their school administration that they need to provide coverage and performance reporting against a set of learning outcomes. The instructor goes into the Outcomes area and browses the available outcomes, selecting Outcome Sets that are applicable to their course. These selected outcomes then become the default when mapping individual content, rubric items, and quiz questions against outcomes.
Instructor Adds Outcomes Specific to the Course
Instructor (with the appropriate capabilities) adds outcomes that are specific to the course. These could be added in addition to standards that come from the Administrator, etc. These outcomes can be mapped against any items just as any other outcome can be.
Instructor Maps Content Items (Resources and Activities) Against Standards
An instructor has been instructed by their school administration that they need to provide coverage and performance reporting against a set of learning outcomes. An instructor browses to an individual resource or activity to edit the item, and then chooses the outcomes that apply to this particular content item.
Instructor Maps Quiz Questions Against Standards
An instructor has been instructed by their school administration that they need to provide coverage and performance reporting against a set of learning outcomes. An instructor browses to a quiz, and while editing a question, maps the quiz question against the outcome that this quiz question covers. (Generally, a quiz question is granular enough that it should be mapped against one outcome, unless that quiz question is an essay question, perhaps there are other examples)
Instructor Maps Rubric Rows Against Standards
An instructor has been instructed by their school administration that they need to provide coverage and performance reporting against a set of learning outcomes. An instructor browses to a rubric and while editing an individual row of the rubric, maps the row against the outcome that this row covers. (Generally, a rubric row is granular enough that it should be mapped against one outcome)
Instructor Uses Other Advanced Grading Methods With Outcomes
Outcomes should be compatible with additional Advanced Grading methods as well. The frameworks should make it possible for Advanced Grading should allow outcomes to flow through, if the developer for that advanced grading chooses to implement it.
Instructor Needs to Determine Coverage of Standards by Course Content
An instructor, who has been given a set of Outcomes to cover in their course by their administration, needs to determine that they have content, both resources and assessment activities, which covers all of the standards, to ensure that students understand all of the requirements. After the course has been mapped against the appropriate standards, and the instructor has mapped all of their content, rubrics, and quiz questions against standards, they can go to a report which shows all of the required (mapped) standards for the course, and which ones of them do not have coverage, and which ones do have coverage, and if they do have coverage, how many items (resources, activities, rubric rows, or quiz questions) are covering that outcome.
Instructor is Required to Show Student Performance Against Outcomes
An instructor, who has been given a set of Outcomes to cover in their course by their Administration, needs to report student progress against outcomes, both individual and overall course performance. The instructor, who has already mapped their content, assessment questions, rubrics, etc. against outcomes, delivers their content through Moodle. The results of assessments and rubric grading show how well the students are doing against the standards, based on their performance on individual questions and outcomes in assignments. The instructor is presented with a report that shows all outcomes that are mapped against the course, and reports the level of completion and the level of performance against each of the standards. If the instructor clicks on a standard, it will drill into that standard more deeply, and show the performance of each student against that standard, as well as the aggregate.
K-12 Instructor in U.S. has to Provide Data of Student Performance Against State Standards
An instructor, who has been given a set of State Standards to cover in their course by the state administration, needs to report student progress against outcomes, both individual and overall course performance. Furthermore, they need to provide the data from their course into a larger report by the school on performance. After mapping the course, assessments, and rubrics against outcomes, the teacher runs the reports and exports the data into CSV, so that it can be aggregated into the larger report.
Backup / Restore Courses with Outcomes
An instructor who has mapped their course and various content items against outcomes backs up their course and restores it into their course shell for the following semester. All of the outcomes and the various mappings are brought forward with the course backup and restored into the new course.
Backup / Restore Common Cartridge with Outcome ID
The most recent version of Common Cartridge includes the ability to pass an “Outcome ID” as part of the Common Cartridge. When an instructor exports a Common Cartridge, we should include the most globally identifiable ID in this field to promote resuse with other systems.
K-12 Instructor wants to use Moodle Sections as a Lesson Plan (Optional)
Many instructors, specifically in K-12 in the United States, are required to build lesson plans for their courses. Lesson plans are generally some form of a module that covers a certain set of standards, contains the required content, and provides an assessment of whether or not the students have mastered the content. In many ways, this maps very nicely to a Moodle Section, if we could simply map Moodle Sections against Outcomes. We could then build a “Lesson Plan View”, which would show all outcomes, associated content, etc. in a Lesson Viewer.
