Glossary auto-linking is a site [[Filter]] that will create links to a glossary activity entry where the word or phrase of the glossary entry is used within the same course in which the glossary is located. This includes forum postings, pages, labels etc.
The Glossary auto-linking filter creates a link to a glossary activity entry whenever the word or phrase is used elsewhere in the course, such as in forum posts, labels or page resources. The link triggers a popup displaying the Concept and Definition. If more than one entry has the same "Concept" string, the first one will be linked.

Glossary auto-linking must be enabled by an administrator via ''Settings > Site administration > Plugins > Filters''. This Filter can be enabled by selecting either '''On''' (where glossary entries will be by default auto-linked) or '''Off but available''' (where the option to use auto-linking is provided in the glossary activity settings).

Enabling the Glossary auto-linking filter

If enabled, a teacher can turn the filter on (or off) in the course or a particular activity via the Filters link in the administration block.

Note: Enabling the Glossary auto-linking filter does not automatically turn on linking for each glossary entry. In the glossary settings, 'Automatically link glossary entries' should be set to Yes, and the checkbox 'This entry should be automatically linked' should be ticked for each glossary entry.

Site administration settings

An administrator must enable the Glossary auto-linking filter in Site administration > Plugins > Filters. See Managing filters for more details.
